Interview with Disney darling Olivia Holt

, 11:00 pm PT by | No comments

Olivia Holt has been making a name for herself in recent years. With a Radio Disney Music Award and starring roles in Disney productions under her belt, the 16 year old actress has proven that she is much more than just a pretty face.

Born in Tennessee and raised in Mississippi, the southern belle got her start in theatre at a young age, where she starred in numerous community productions including Annie and Through the Looking Glass. Olivia is no stranger to Disney Channel — she starred in Disney Channel Original Movie Girls vs. Monsters as Skylar and she is perhaps best known for playing Kim in Disney XD series Kickin' It.

Olivia currently stars in Disney Channel's newest sitcom I Didn't Do It. In the show, she plays Lindy Watson, a high-spirited and ambitious teenager who excels in school, but always manages to be in the center of some chaotic event along with her fraternal twin brother Logan and their three best friends. Together, the twins take on their freshman year of high school together, one outrageous adventure after another.

Musichel had the honour to talk to this young star about her new show I Didn't Do It as well as the possibility of her pursuing a singing career of her own. Olivia also talked about Kickin' It, on which she starred for three seasons. Ever wondered which other character on I Didn't Do It Olivia would love to play and who the biggest prankster of the cast is? Read all about it in the interview below!

Congratulations on the new show! What can fans expect from I Didn't Do It that is different from other Disney Channel sitcoms?
Thank you so much! The fans can expect a lot of messes in the show but also a lot of surprises. The show is so unique and so relatable. Each episode starts at the ending and the rest is a flash black and a story-telling way of how the five best friends "Didn't Do It".

Describe Lindy and Logan's relationship in one word.
Unpredictable. One second they're bickering back and forth, then they're wrestling each other to the ground, but at the end of the day, they're always there for each other.

Are there going to be any interesting guest stars on the show this season?
Yes! You'll see some familiar Disney faces, so stay tuned to find out!

What's your typical work week like?
Wednesdays are my start of the week, so they're basically everyone's Monday. Wednesdays are table read days. Thursdays and Fridays are rehearsal and run-through days. And then we have the weekend off and Monday and Tuesday we film an episode. Then we go right back to another table read for a new episode Wednesday morning.

We hear that the cast of I Didn't Do It are quite the pranksters — who is the most gullible and who is the biggest prankster of the group?
Oh you got that right. I'd say either me or Austin [North] are the most gullible. But the prankster of the group is hands down Sarah [Gilman]. Around Halloween time, she put a giant fake spider in my dressing room bathroom and I'm pretty sure my heart dropped to my feet. It was terrifying.

If you could play any character on I Didn't Do It other than Lindy, who would it be?
I think it'd be fun to play Jasmine (Piper Curda's role). She has such a fun sense of style and she's incredibly witty.

Did you ever do martial arts before Kickin' It?
Not a day in my life before the show. But I've learned to love it and I never thought I'd enjoy it as much as I do now.

What will you miss most about being on Kickin' It?
The people, of course! The cast and crew made the Kickin It set such a fun and family oriented place. I learned so much while working there.

You have recorded a few songs for Disney — any plans to pursue a singing career of your own?
Oh, absolutely. Most people know me from my acting but singing was actually my first love. I'm working on some music of my own right now and I hope it'll be out for everyone to listen to this year.

Do you prefer acting in movies or acting in television series?
I think it'd be nice to take a break from television for a while and focus on movies. I haven't gotten a lot of experience working that way yet so I'm hoping I eventually will. But I love working on a series as well. I've learned an incredible amount of fields in this business and everyone I've worked with has been so open about sharing what they do.

What are some of your favourite songs at the moment?
I love "Say Something" sung by A Great Big World and also anything Bruno Mars. He's incredible.
