Fans begged and Disney delivered! The sequel to 2013's Teen Beach Movie has been greenlit and is officially underway.
The beach musical, which debuted on Disney Channel in July 2013, became the #2 movie in cable television history. Starring Ross Lynch (Austin & Ally, R5) and Maia Mitchell (The Fosters), the show follows teenagers Brady and McKenzie/Mack as they get trapped in a 1960's beach movie called Wet Side Story.
Teen Beach Movie 2 will pick up from where the film left off, when the characters from Wet Side Story follow Mack and Brady into the real world. Months after their little adventure, Mack and Brady are surprised when their surfer and biker friends from the fictional beach musical pay them a visit in the real world.
Reprising their roles in the sequel are Ross Lynch ("Brady"), Maia Mitchell ("McKenzie"), Grace Phipps ("Lela"), Garrett Clayton ("Tanner") and John DeLuca ("Butch"). Production will begin this summer, with the rest of the cast to be announced in due time. This surprising announcement was made during the 2014 Radio Disney Music Awards pre-show party.
"The audience response to the first Teen Beach Movie was overwhelming," said Gary Marsh, the president and chief creative officer at Disney Channels Worldwide. "We are thrilled to have the cast back for a new music-driven saga that continues this fantastical story."
