Having been in the music industry since winning the inaugural Australian Idol back in 2003, it is no wonder that Australian musician Guy Sebastian has such a huge following in Singapore. Fans of all ages gathered, with excited hearts that beat like a drum, at the Waterfront Studios at Resorts World Sentosa on Monday, Jun 30, for the filming of MTV Sessions featuring Guy Sebastian, which was Guy's first ever performance in Singapore.
Guy kicked off the show with a very upbeat and danceable song called "Gold", which gave the night a great start and pumped up the 250-strong crowd.
"Have you ever had a bad day?" Guy asked the crowd. He then went on to explain that the next song was written when he realised that no matter how bad a day we have had, we should still be thankful for all that we have. That was how "Don’t Worry Be Happy" came about. The line “If you only think of things that you haven't got, you could have it all and still never have enough, so don't worry, be happy” is definitely going to be my life motto from now on.
The 32 year old kept his fans up to date on his career by announcing that he was in the midst of completing his eighth album. Guy also shared his experiences as a father of two, telling us that fatherhood was a life-changing experience for him. He then performed "Get Along", which was written before the birth of his son as a plea to the world to be more loving. It was great to see a musician with such passion and love for everything he does!
Guy Sebastian then took requests from his 359,000 Twitter fans, where the large majority requested for him to perform his first ever single "Angels Brought Me Here". I was blown away by his impressive vocal range and powerful vocals on that song.
Teasing the crowd with a short cover of "Thrift Shop" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Guy then transitioned into "Like It Like That". Shortly after, Guy ended the showcase with his latest single, "Like A Drum" and he performed "Art of Love" as an encore, bringing an end to his first (and hopefully not his last) show in Singapore. It was a bittersweet moment for everyone when he performed "Art of Love" because while we were glad he performed the song, we didn't want the show to officially end.
It is clear that even after being in the music industry for more than a decade, Guy Sebastian’s music is still widely received by people of all ages. I am definitely looking forward to hearing his upcoming new music and falling in love with his songs all over again.
