Review: Daughtry's acoustic showcase at ION Orchard

Four time Grammy-nominated rock band Daughtry recently stopped by Singapore to celebrate the fifth anniversary of one of the country's most iconic malls: ION Orchard. Daughtry members Chris Daughtry, Brian Craddock and Elvio Fernandes performed an acoustic showcase at this year's ION Fashion Concert outside the magnificent ION Orchard mall on Oct 17.

The night started off with "Baptized", the opening song in Daughtry's latest album of the same name. Lead singer Chris Daughtry, who placed fourth on season five of televised singing competition American Idol in 2006, was in high spirits as he sang to the crowd which grew larger with every passing second. The members of the audience were in equally high spirits as they sang along with Daughtry, especially when they played their smash hits like "Life After You", "What About Now" and "Home".

Things took a turn for the unexpected when a sudden downpour of rain caused the show to be temporarily halted. When the skies in Singapore—a country known for its frequent harsh torrents of rain—finally cleared up, Daughtry returned back to the stage and continued the concert much to the relief of the hundreds of fans who had gathered around the barricades surrounding the stage.

Concluding the set was "Waiting for Superman", which was inspired by real-life experiences of incredible women. The song was written and produced by Martin Johnson from Boys Like Girls, who were coincidentally last year's ION Fashion Concert performers. The crowd sang along to every word and many even tried to capture the moment with their smart phones to immortalise this intimate show in the form of pictures and videos. It was a night to remember and we can't wait to see what ION Orchard has in store for next year's ION Fashion Concert!
