Disney Channel has been teasing fans with a reunion of Boy Meets World characters on Girl Meets World for the longest time, and while some original cast members have already appeared on the spin-off series, this week's episode marks the biggest reunion on the show thus far.
We've seen Cory's grade school nerdy nemesis Stuart Minkus, we've seen Cory's high school tormentor Harley Keiner and we've seen Cory's favourite teacher and neighbour Mr. Feeny. This week, in a Christmas-themed episode titled "Girl Meets Home for the Holidays", the Matthews clan celebrates Christmas with Grandpa Alan, Grandma Amy, Uncle Joshua and Uncle Shawn.
"Shawn's coming!" Cory exclaims before hanging a "Cory & Shawn 4-evah" ornament right in front of a Cory and Topanga wedding ornament on the Christmas tree. In this reminiscent episode, we see teenage Cory once again in all his youthful glory (in adult Cory's body) and find out what Shawn has been up to all these years. While Cory and Shawn catch up after being apart for thirteen years, Topanga works hard on Christmas dinner to please Amy, Riley and Maya get to know with elusive Uncle Shawn, and Auggie bonds with Uncle Joshua. Also, sparks fly between Maya and Josh as they blatantly flirt with each other throughout the episode—will Maya become Riley's aunt?
This marks Shawn Hunter's first appearance on Girl Meets World but this is definitely not the last we'll be seeing him—Shawn will return in one more episode this season and a couple more in season two. Speaking of guest stars, it was announced earlier this week by the writers of Girl Meets World that a season two episode titled "Girl Meets Mr. Squirrels" is currently in production. You know what that means... Eric Matthews is back! A little over a year ago, Will Friedle crushed hearts when he confirmed that Eric will not be a part of Girl Meets World; we sure are glad (and relieved) that he changed his mind. Our beloved Mr. Feeny will also be returning to the show in at least two episodes next season after his short and ambiguous appearance in the series premiere which left people wondering if he was alive.
But wait—that's not all! During a Q&A session on the Girl Meets World writing room's Twitter account, they also confirmed the return of Harley Keiner, Chet Hunter's ghost and a mysterious character who has not been named yet. The writers have, however, confirmed that we will find out the fate of Boy Meets World characters Mr. Turner, Angela, Jack and Rachel, and that a character (NOT Mr. Feeny) will die early in season two. Characters that may return are Stuart Minkus, Morgan and Lauren. We can't wait to see what awaits us next season!
"Girl Meets Home for the Holidays" is a beautiful Christmas episode that's filled with laughs, revelations and emotions that will tug on the heartstrings of every Girl Meets World fan regardless of familiarity with Boy Meets World. The episode will premiere on Friday, Dec 5, 2014 at 8.30pm ET/PT on Disney Channel.
